Rose subsequently fell in love with the human Greg Universe before giving up her physical form to give birth to their son Steven, who inherited her gemstone, making her a part of him. With no choice left, she allows herself to be taken by Amethyst who promises not to hurt her. She then confronts Amethyst but doesn't get a chance to fight her since she realizes that something is wrong with her child. After some persuasion from Sapphire, who knows how to find answers through experiments, Rose uses this method to learn what happened to her during her abduction. Eventually, she finds Amethyst in a deserted town where it appears that someone else is using its powers. During this time, she meets with other abandoned gems who tell her about how they were also left alone by their counterparts. This causes Garnet to go on a quest to find her daughter. In "The Answer", it is revealed that Rose was abducted by Amethyst when she was still in her body. She also has a fiery temper, as seen when she beat Jasper up after he attacked Pearl. Rose has been shown to have an extremely strong willed personality, as she once told Peridot that she would never forgive him for killing Greg. She later recovers from giving birth and decides to become a Gem again. Rose Quartz (voiced by Susan Egan), the original leader of the Crystal Gems, is Steven's mother, who "gave up her bodily form" to allow Steven to be born. ![]() Since Amethyst has never been charged with murder before, she couldn't be charged again with this offense. Well, in Earth Alliance Media, there is a rule known as "double jeopardy", which means that you can't be punished twice for the same crime. You might be wondering why Amethyst didn't get sent to prison for killing Rose Quartz. When Rose tried to leave, Amethyst followed her and attacked her with a hammer killing her instantly.Īfter this incident, Garnet, Pearl, and Jackie come together and decide to go on living in Rose's memory until they find another Crystal Gem who can lead them on their quest. Before she became a Gem, she had an identical twin sister named Amethyst who wanted to kill her because she felt like Rose belonged to her. This happened after she gave up her physical form to become a Gem called "Steven". In The Answer, it's revealed that Rose Quartz died because she was killed by Amethyst. She basically perished by transforming into half of Steven, leaving the other Crystal Gems without a leader and Steven without a mother. She understood the value of life and of guilt… thousands of years too late.Rose Quartz gave up her physical form when she gave birth to Steven, and her gem was passed on to Steven. She grew and matured because of her failures. Rose understood this and never forgave herself. At the end she did her best for her followers and friends, but her mistakes were too large to ignore. ![]() That misstep led to Earth’s Corruption, and the thousands of years of suffering and bestial madness that followed for almost every Gem left on Earth. The Diamonds were fierce warrior goddesses who loved her. Worse, she tried to end the war by faking her Shattering. Rose started this destruction with no clear plan because of personal dissatisfaction. The toll on prehistoric human life must have been similarly terrifying, as godlike superbeings battled not just on the planet’s surface but deep within it. The psychological damage inflicted on the Crystal Gems and Homeworld Gems alike is horrific. We see the fallout from the Gem War everywhere in Steven's universe, from the Corrupted Gems to Lapis’ mirror. ![]()
